This past week started, as the previous one ended, recovering from the very enjoyable Portsmouth trip. The impact on my body, from that trip, was more than expected and I took it very easy on Monday and Tuesday. Susan and Paddy took a walk from our house down to Folkestone seafront, but I stayed at home. The following day, they went over to Dover, courtesy of Alanna, but again, I made the decision to remain at home. Overall, my body had not yet settled down and my head suffered some lightness, alongside the lower back pain. That back pain was further exacerbated on Sunday, due to me deciding to take part in the annual scooter run that leaves from Folkestone. We have already had discussions around how we adjust further, moving forwards, to counter the impact on my body of being away from home, on uncomfortable chairs.
Activity wise, Wednesday morning finally allowed me the chance to deliver the consultancy related presentation delayed from last week. That afternoon involved a trip to the airport, leaving Susan and Paddy there to catch their flight back home. By the latter stages of the drive back home, the back discomfort was increasing. Thursday was purely spent writing, as the Fritz Witt book moves nicely towards its (almost) conclusion. Friday was a mix of writing and also consultancy - again, delayed from last week. Saturday was a mixed day, then Sunday was when I decided to take part in the annual Skabour scooter run. I was unsure about that, due to this week’s back issues, but wanted to keep trying to do things. I did set myself back again by doing that, but it was enjoyable and weather was very nice here. I also received a trophy from the 2023 rideout, which was for ‘People’s choice’, something voted on by all attendees. Very nice to get that and I recall a number of very nice scooters from 2023.
There was also a health related aspect to taking part in this year’s rideout, which was the comparison we have been able to draw between this one and the 2023 one. You may recall that image of me sitting on my scooter, with the lack of hair still evident, alongside my still grey / green skin pallor. Many people picked up on how I looked a year ago, seeing the obvious illness impact. That was countered this year with more positive comments, alongside being able to compare photos taken one year apart. I don’t where I’m going next, but I do know where I have been!
A much less intense week, but one where it was necessary to focus on recovery and rest. It was very nice to have my sister and Paddy with us for the first half of the week, which was part two of their trip to England. Susan and I had the chance to share some nice emotional moments, as we all chart our way through this cancer disease nonsense and its impact.
Thank for the unrelenting support of this Blog, appreciated.
