This past week started on a low. I was working on book cover aspects first thing, but by lunchtime, my head had become very tired, which then affected my eyes. It may have been due to me not eating enough during the morning, unsure. However, the knock on impact was a notable increase in tiredness and by the time that Sandra came home, I needed to sleep. When I woke up, the lethargy remained, then later in the evening, I spent the whole evening offloading my thought processes to Sandra. That made for an emotional evening and I think it was as a result of the build up of the past few weeks.
The rest of the week was more normal and I continued with my walks, with Alanna joining me for one of those. These are a good measure for me, as I can monitor my ability to do the walk, the impact of it and how far I can walk, etc. They are easing, which means that I will begin to extend the length of them, further up the steep hill near us. There are different stages to that hill, which aids the stepped increase in the distance of the walks. Will see how things unfold, but probably feeling the best I have since the pre-cancer / pre-chemo stage.
I had another hair cut during the week and these are another measurable aspect of life with cancer. As mentioned before, I have had the same hairdresser for the past 25+ years, so he knows my hair very well. He commented that it had begun to soften down, appears to be darkening a little too and he was able to cut in a manner that neither of us have seen for nearly 18-months. He also pointed out that my hair appears to be defying most conventions, which is nice to hear.
Work continues on the books and during the week I was sent some superb files on individuals, alongside some of the specific military units I am researching. These are always exciting to open, as you get the chance to read the historic documents, match them back to the specifics of each project and help ensure they are as accurate in their portrayal as possible. I am grateful for some of my key contacts and friends, who assist with additions such as these and Georg and Albert were the people who helped me this week. We have a good community of fellow researchers, who help each other behind the scenes.
The week ended with a visit by Sandra’s brother and his partner. Their visit coincided with a surge in our hot weather in the southeast. That made a nice few days, allowing us to visit local spots and have a relaxing and enjoyable few days.
Sunday was National Ice Cream Day, and I hope many of you indulged in that never ending delight; watch this space for more roving reports and insights.
Until then, thank you for the continued and unwavering support.
Regards
Peter
