Week 19: w/e 19th July 2026
Hi Folks and thank you for taking the time to read this. Slightly delayed, as I have been away at a show all weekend, then had a very busy morning today. On the health front, no major aspects to report. I focused on the continuation of my new exercises, daily, to help sort the previous shoulder issue; they appear to be working just fine. We had a busy Wednesday (details below) and had plans for Thursday, but then we changed those, as I felt a bit tired / sore / unsettled stomach. Apart from that, nothing else to report.
There were two main focuses for the past week. The first was the arrival of my nephew Conor, his partner and her two children. Next to my own two children and the grandkids, Conor and his sister are very close to my heart, due to the time we spent together in Ireland when they were all young, and the relationship we have devoted time to since; great to see him in person again. They stayed with Alanna for the week and we had some time with them, around our existing commitments. We had a short bit of time on Monday evening, then on Tuesday, they came to ours in the later afternoon, where the kids all played in the garden, then we had some food together; with Karl and Rachel joining us for that. Wednesday seen most of us in Deal, a few miles from Alanna’s, where the kids done a bit of crab fishing off the pier. Following that, a short lunch stop, then we done a round of crazy golf, all of which made for a nice day and lots of fun. In the early evening, Sandra and I returned home to rest up, whilst the other went to Alanna’s for a BBQ and watching the World Cup game (Karl and Rachel joined them after work). Thursday was another day where we planned to spend time together, but Sandra and I had to change that. Nothing serious, just not feeling 100% and did not want to venture too far from home that day. From Friday morning through to Sunday, I was at a new show.
That was the second focus, with me travelling from first thing Friday morning to Colin’s, then both of us then moving onto Newbury for the new show. Unfortunately, the show was not well attended, which made for a very quiet show and not much stock shifted for either of us. However, the location is very well situated and the site is very good - so the potential is high for future shows. Part of the reason for doing the show is the social aspect, and that was great. Me and Colin never have any shortage of things to talk about; then there is the interaction with other traders and the public. The weather was superb, which always helps. Due to the show being much, much quieter than expected, we packed up and were in the car and on the way home by 2pm. That gave both of us the evening at home, sorting out the residual aspects from the show attendance.
Back to the early part of the week, I did push on with the Münkemer book and I unearthed key testimonies used in the trial that were directly relevant to him and his overall story. I begun the task of adding them in to the book program, but also editing the images to make them easier to read in the finished book (they are 80 years old and only some of them are in colour).
That was my week, summarised by some quality time with the wider family, then trying out the new show. This week’s photo is from the crazy golf, as I forgot to get one of the show.
Your time is appreciated.
Regards
Peter
